By Major A. Clark
My name is Major A. Clark, I’m a 32 year old African American currently incarcerated for making an irrational decision, under the influence of alcohol. Under the influence I broke the laws of the land in Ellaville Georgia by committing a felony offense, because I’m imperfectly perfect from sinful human nature and highly capable to make mistakes throughout the tests, trials, and tribulations of life vicissitudes.
However, throughout this incarceration I have experience a moment of clarity, epiphany, and introspection that has awakened my consciousness and conscientiousness. While looking in the mirror of my own conscientiousness, my “reality” and “perspective” about life in general has been entirely changed. I must give glory and veneration to my Creator Yahweh Elohim for permitting this situation to happen in my life: to chastise, correct and make my nephesh perspicuous of the sin, flaws, and transgressions of my personal life while I was blunderingly backsliding against Him. John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” and Hebrew 8:12 says “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more”, so I am just thankful for the ordeal and restoring my relationship with Yehovah Adouai through Christ Yeshuah (Hallelujah!.)
Moreover, “Knowledge is power” and the prophet Hosea said: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hasea 4;6) however, coming to this realization and unadulterated truth. I’ve began my educational journey while incarcerated to attain higher education such as an Associates or Bachelors Degree in Business Management or Legal Assistant/Paralegal, because “Knowledge is a key to unlock the door of opportunity to attain success from education.” I’ve had my GED since 2009 and Work Ready Certificate, these are some of the minor achievements I’ve attained through the educational department. The 26th president Theodore Roosevelt said: “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”, so I have been striving to elevate myself for betterment and personal development through education, spirituality, and exercising.
There have been some stumbling blocks that hinder me from achieving this target on this education journey, that is “indigence” and the Federal Law(s) that prohibit federal student aid, loans consolidation, and Pell Grants for students, individuals, and people confined. I declare these Federal Laws to be discriminatory and a typical bias towards individuals confined or incarcerated in the Georgia penal system striving to elevate themselves with Higher education. These acts of discrimination are an egregious, pernicious malalignment nefarious fascism being “subtly” imposed against the “tonic” and “therapeutic” purpose of rehabilitation! From the powers that be within the DOC, being stipulated through prejudice tyrants promulgating such discriminatory laws from the legislative branch. Yet, the Federal Government funds certain “supposedly” rehabilitating programs and classes in Georgia penal system, however, why are the statistics for repeatable offenders and recidivism extremely high but the Georgia prison system(s) is a multi-billion dollar industry and corporation imposing “Exploitation” through “Capitalism” to our family and love ones with expensive phone companies and networks and commissary (i.e. store), which is a “subtle” currency infrastructure for shareholders and stockholders, however, the prison system is “supposably” meant and designed for (“rehabilitation”) the neo-slave plantation- DOC!
Thus, “… Class divisions within the black community: Although mass incarceration harms Black America as a whole, its most direct victims are the poorest, least educated blacks. While the lifetime risk of incarceration skyrocket for African American male high school dropouts with the advent of mass incarceration, it (actually decreased slightly for black men with some college education)… By the year 2000, the lifetime risk of incarceration for black high school dropouts was ten times higher (than it was African Americans who had attended college)…” (Excerpt from James Forman Jr, Introduction to Locking Up Our Own, Crime and Punishment in Black America, 2017.)
Ultimately, my objective for sharing my educational journey and story is to inspire and motivate all incarcerated individuals encountering this same struggle, to continue fighting for equal education rights in the Georgia penal system. We “supposably” retain these rights in the Declaration of Independence bestowed upon every citizen by their creator as inalienable rights. I’m I’m praying that the readers and viewers of my educational story will realize the importance in getting higher education for betterment, elevation, and personal development o ministrate becoming productive members of society.
Furthermore, I am requesting any and all ministrative and charitable donations to my purpose and endeavor of empowerment through Higher Education, which will give “hope to the hopeless” by helping accomplish a vital and important target on my educational journey and rehabilitation in the Georgia penal system: “Where there is no vision, the people perish,” So everyday Yahweh “Bless” me to live, I’m creating a better opportunity for myself in the future, because Benjamin Franklin said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”
